Meet the Angel!
The Angel is a favorite imaginative character found in holiday stories, art, and folklore.
Angels appear in the stories and holy books of several religions, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam, where they are messengers and helpers. The word angel comes from a Greek word that means messenger. Over many centuries, painters and sculptors began to show angels with wings and halos of light, and that picture became the one most people know.
Angels appear in paintings and stained-glass windows in many old churches, and in Christmas nativity plays, where children dress up with tinsel halos. In films and books, a guardian angel often helps someone in trouble, like Clarence in the film It's a Wonderful Life.
