The flag of Italy
Italy is a country located in Europe, known for pizza & pasta.
Italy is in southern Europe. Most of it is a long peninsula that sticks out into the Mediterranean Sea, plus the big islands of Sicily and Sardinia. The Alps mountains stretch across the north. Two tiny countries, Vatican City and San Marino, are completely surrounded by Italy.
Italy has more UNESCO World Heritage Sites than almost any other country. Venice is a city built on water, where people travel by boat along canals. Famous artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were Italian, and Italy also gave the world opera, gelato and some of the fastest race cars.
What continent is Italy located in?
Have children draw Italy's boot shape on paper, then talk about famous Italian foods like pizza and pasta and where they came from.
Make a pretend pizza using paper circles and cut-out toppings, naming each ingredient. Look at a picture of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and talk about why it tilts.
