Pink is a gentle, happy tint of red found in nature and sweets!
Pink is a special color known as a tint. This means it is made by taking a strong color (Red) and mixing it with White to make it lighter and softer. Pink is often associated with sweetness, love, kindness, and gentle feelings. While many people think of pink as a color for baby girls, in nature, pink belongs to everyone! It is the color of beautiful sunsets, delicious fruits, and amazing animals.
Pink is a magical color in the animal kingdom. Did you know that many animals are not born pink? They turn pink because of the food they eat! Nature uses pink to make flowers look attractive to bees and butterflies.

Amazing Fact: Flamingos are actually born gray! They turn bright pink because they eat lots of tiny shrimp and algae that contain a special red pigment. If they stopped eating that food, they would turn white again!
Pink foods are often sweet, juicy, and full of vitamins. We also love pink treats for celebrations!
In color theory, there are three ways to change a color: Hue, Shade, and Tint.
A Tint is created when you add White to a pure color. This makes the color lighter and less intense. Pink is simply a tint of Red. If you add a little white to red, you get a hot pink. If you add a lot of white, you get a baby pink. Unlike mixing Red and Blue to make Purple (a new hue), mixing Red and White just makes the Red lighter!
Pink has hundreds of beautiful names! Here are some common ones:

Try this: Put a big blob of white paint on your paper. Add just one tiny dot of red. Mix it. Now add another dot. Watch how the color changes from white to baby pink to hot pink!
