Brown is a warm, natural earth tone found everywhere in nature!
Brown is a special composite color, which means it is made by mixing other colors together. You won't find brown in a rainbow! Brown is the color of the Earth. It is the color of the soil we plant seeds in, the trunks of big trees, and the fur of many cozy animals. Brown makes us feel warm, safe, and grounded, just like a hug from a teddy bear or a mug of hot chocolate.
Brown is the most common color on the ground! It is the color of life because plants grow in brown soil. Trees use brown trunks to stand tall and strong, holding up all their green leaves. Many animals have brown fur or feathers to help them hide in the dirt, mud, or tree bark. This is called camouflage.

Did you know? Some owls are brown so they can hide perfectly against tree bark during the day. Predators walk right past them without seeing a thing!
Some of the most delicious foods in the world are brown! These foods often give us energy and make us feel happy.
Since brown isn't in the rainbow, how do we make it? There are two main ways:
Method 1: Mix All Primaries
If you mix Red + Blue + Yellow together, you get brown! (You might get a muddy dark color first, but keep mixing!)
Method 2: Mix Complements
If you mix two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, they cancel each other out and make brown!
