Vroom! Meet the Medical Helicopter.
A Medical Helicopter is an emergency flying vehicle, famous for rushing sick or hurt people to the hospital quickly.
A medical helicopter is a flying ambulance. Inside it has a stretcher, oxygen and life-saving equipment, and a doctor or flight nurse travels with the patient. Because helicopters can take off and land straight up and down, the pilot can pick up a patient from a roadside, a mountain or a sports field and fly straight to a hospital.
Many large hospitals have a helipad, often on the roof, marked with a big H. You might see a brightly painted medical helicopter landing there, or flying overhead toward a hospital, especially in areas far from the nearest big city.
What is the main job of a Medical Helicopter?
Have children pretend to be a helicopter doctor helping a toy patient, then talk about why speed matters in an emergency.
Draw a helicopter landing pad with a big "H," and talk about how a medical helicopter can land almost anywhere flat.
