Your amazing kidneys at work!
Your Kidneys help your body by filtering your blood and making urine.
Each kidney contains about a million tiny filters called nephrons. Blood flows through them, and they keep the good things your body needs, like water and salts, while removing waste and extra water. The waste becomes urine, which travels down tubes to your bladder and leaves your body when you go to the toilet.
Drinking water through the day is the best way to look after your kidneys. A good sign that you are drinking enough is pale yellow urine. Don't hold it in for too long when you need the toilet, and eat less very salty food, because too much salt makes your kidneys work harder.
What is the main job of your kidneys?
Pour water through a coffee filter and talk about how it catches bits and pieces, similar to how kidneys filter your blood.
Draw two bean shapes to represent kidneys, and talk about why drinking enough water every day helps them do their job.
Two, shaped like beans.
Waste your body doesn't need.
It helps them work well.
Many times throughout the day.
