Green is the most common color in nature, found in plants and trees!
Green is a beautiful secondary color, which means it is made by mixing two primary colors together: Blue and Yellow. Green is the color of life! It is everywhere in nature, from the grass under our feet to the tall trees in the forest. Because so many plants are green, looking at this color often makes people feel calm, fresh, and happy.
If you look outside, you will see green almost everywhere! Plants, trees, grass, and bushes are green because of a special ingredient inside them called chlorophyll. This helps them make food from sunlight. Without green plants, we wouldn't have oxygen to breathe!

Did you know? In the autumn (fall), leaves change from green to red, orange, and yellow because the chlorophyll breaks down as the weather gets colder!
Many animals use green to hide in the leaves so predators can't find them. This is called camouflage. Also, many healthy foods are green!
Plants are like little solar power factories! They use sunlight to make their own food in a process called photosynthesis.
Inside plant cells, there is a chemical called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll loves to soak up blue and red light from the sun to use for energy, but it reflects (bounces off) green light. Because the green light bounces off the leaf and hits our eyes, we see the plant as green! If chlorophyll absorbed green light instead, plants would look black to us.
Green has hundreds of different names! Here are some common ones:
