This is a great question! Sunlight looks white, but it is actually made of all the colors of the rainbow (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet).
When sunlight hits the air molecules in our atmosphere, the blue light scatters (spreads out) more than the other colors because it travels in shorter, smaller waves. So, when you look up, you see this scattered blue light everywhere! At sunset, the light has to travel through more air, so the blue scatters away completely, leaving the beautiful reds and oranges.
Blue has many different names depending on how light or dark it is. Can you imagine these colors?
