Sorting numbers into odd and even helps children notice patterns in numbers. Even numbers can be split into two equal groups, and odd numbers always have one left over.
Tips for grown-ups
A number is even if it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. It can be split into two equal groups.
A number is odd if it ends in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9. When you split it into pairs, one is left over.
Zero is even. It ends in 0 and can be split into two equal groups of zero.
