Reinforce number learning by counting everyday objects: stairs, toys, or snacks. Ask, “How many blocks did you stack?” or “Can you show me 5 fingers?” This builds number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and early math confidence in preschool and kindergarten kids.
What your child practices
Children practice recognizing written numerals and matching them to their spoken names. Holding up fingers or counting objects for each number connects the symbol to an amount, which is the heart of early number sense.
Tips for grown-ups
It covers the numbers 0 to 10, each shown large and spoken aloud.
Counting is saying numbers in order and matching them to objects. Number recognition is knowing what the written numeral looks like. Children need both.
