Vroom! Meet the Garbage Truck.
A Garbage Truck is a land sanitation vehicle, famous for collecting trash from homes and businesses.
A garbage truck collects trash from homes and businesses. On many trucks, a mechanical arm grabs a bin, lifts it and tips it into the back. Inside, a big metal plate called a packer pushes and squashes the trash so the truck can hold the trash from hundreds of homes before it is full.
Garbage trucks visit most streets once a week, often early in the morning. When the truck is full, it drives to a landfill, a recycling center or a waste-to-energy plant to empty its load. Listen for the beeping sound it makes when it backs up.
What is the main job of a Garbage Truck?
Have children sort toy trash into recycling and garbage bins, then talk about why sorting helps the planet.
Draw a garbage truck squishing trash into its compactor, and talk about how it keeps neighborhoods clean.
A powerful compactor squishes it to fit more in.
The same day every week in many neighborhoods.
It collects paper, plastic, and glass instead.
They keep our streets and homes clean and healthy.
