Vroom! Meet the Fighter Jet.
A Fighter Jet is a fast military aircraft, famous for flying at incredible speeds to protect the skies.
A fighter jet is a small, very fast military airplane, usually flown by one or two pilots. Its jet engines suck in air, mix it with fuel and burn it, blasting hot gas out of the back to push the plane forward. Short, swept-back wings help it turn sharply and fly faster than sound.
Most people see fighter jets at air shows, where pilots fly in tight formations and perform loops and rolls. You might also hear one fly over during a big celebration. Many air and space museums let you walk right up to retired fighter jets.
What is the main job of a Fighter Jet?
Have children zoom a toy jet through loops in the air, then talk about how pilots train to fly at very high speeds.
Draw a fighter jet streaking across the sky with a trail behind it, and talk about the air shows jets perform in.
