Vroom! Meet the Electric Bus.
An Electric Bus is a land public transport vehicle, famous for carrying passengers using clean electric power instead of gas.
An electric bus has a large battery pack, often on the roof or under the floor, that powers electric motors to turn the wheels. When the bus slows down, the motors work in reverse to put a little energy back into the battery. This is called regenerative braking. At the end of the day, or sometimes at the end of each route, the bus plugs in to charge.
Many cities now run electric buses on everyday routes, so you may already have ridden one. Look for charging stations at bus depots, or tall charging arms at some bus stops that lower onto the roof of the bus for a quick top-up.
What is the main job of an Electric Bus?
Have children pretend to plug in a toy bus to "charge" it, then talk about why electric buses don't need gasoline.
Draw an electric bus with a charging cable, and talk about how it helps keep the air clean.
Batteries instead of gasoline or diesel fuel.
They have no rumbling engine.
No, which helps keep the air cleaner.
To help protect the environment.
