Meet the Witch!
The Witch is a favorite imaginative character found in fairy tales and storybooks.
Witches appear in folk tales from all over the world. In many old European stories, a witch was a wise woman who knew about plants and potions, and in others she was the villain. Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm collected many of these tales in Germany about 200 years ago, including Hansel and Gretel.
Famous story witches include the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz, Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Kiki's Delivery Service. On Halloween, many children dress up as witches with pointy hats and broomsticks.
